Request a Search For a Returned Item

What Is A Returned Item Search?

If you have returned your library items but they are still appearing on your library account, you can submit a Returned Item Search Request to have your items located and properly checked in. To access the form, you will need to be logged in to your 49er account and have your 800 number.

What You Need To Know

Once you fill out the form, your request is received by our Collections Maintenance unit. Returned item searches are performed Monday through Friday when the library is open. Searches that are requested over the weekend will be processed Monday morning.

After your request is processed, we will begin searching for your item and will continue to search for up to one week. While the search is in process, fines are prevented from forming on your library account. We kindly ask that you continue checking your home, office, car, or anywhere else the item could be.

You will be contacted through your UNC Charlotte email with updates regarding your request.

Items that are found:

  • You will be notified that the search is complete.

  • The item will be checked in and removed from your library account. You should receive an official â€˜returned item’ email notification from our library staff.

  • Any overdue fines that were formed before the search process began will be waived.

Items that are not found:

  • You will be notified that the search is complete and that your items could not be located.

  • The item will remain on your library account and the current policies for fines and refunds will apply.

  • You can contact the Circulation Department at circdesk@uncc.edu to follow-up on outstanding fines or any further concerns related to the item(s) on your account.
